Daniel O. Dunagan Profile Photo

Daniel O. Dunagan

October 26, 1938 — January 4, 2024

Daniel O. Dunagan

Daniel O. Dunagan, also known as Dan, to loved ones, passed away on January 4, 2024. He was born on October 26, 1938, in Reidsville, NC. Dan was a remarkable individual who left an indelible mark on the agriculture industry, having dedicated 45 years of his life to his career as the Vice President of Platte Chemicals.

Dan's strong work ethic and passion for agriculture were evident throughout his career. He was highly respected by his colleagues and played a crucial role in the growth and success of the company. His dedication and expertise were instrumental in shaping the industry's landscape.

However, beyond his professional achievements, Dan was remembered for his infectious sense of humor and quick wit. He had a special talent for bringing joy to those around him with his "Danisms" - witty remarks and quips that would lighten any room he entered. His jovial nature made him a beloved figure among family, friends, and colleagues alike.

When not working tirelessly or making others laugh, Dan found solace in pursuing his hobbies and interests. He was an avid golfer who dedicated himself to the sport daily. His skill on the green even earned him the opportunity to participate in the Deposit Guaranty PGA Pro AM twice – a testament to his talent and commitment. A special activity to him was participating in packing Operation Christmas Child boxes.

Dan's passing leaves a void not only in the agriculture industry but also in the lives of those who knew him best. He will be deeply missed by his wife Janice Dunagan, three daughters Dawn Perry (Joe), Danelle Cruz (Javier), Amy McLaurin (Neill), along with his cherished grandchildren Brandon McMillian, Josie McLaurin, Blake Burgess, and Maggie McLaurin.

In addition to his immediate family members, Dan is survived by his brother Darryl Dunagan, brother Todd Dunagan, and sister Lynn Dunagan. He was preceded in death by his parents, Hubert and Rebekah Dunagan and sister Janet Duffee. Daniel is descended from Ezekiel Dunagan 1771 - 1836  of Hall County GA, James Reid Dunagan and Ezekiel Parks Dunagan and Susan O’Neal (which is where the middle initial of O comes from )also of Hall County GA.

To honor Dan's memory and celebrate his life, visitation services will be held on January 10, 2024, from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Arrington Funeral Directors and Crematory located at 148 W University Pkwy in Jackson, TN. This will be followed by a funeral service at the same location from 11:00 AM officiated by Rev. Gary Snuffin. Burial will follow in Ridgecrest Cemetery.

Dan was an exceptional individual whose contributions to the agriculture industry will never be forgotten. His warm personality, dedication, and kindness touched the lives of everyone he encountered. He leaves behind a legacy of hard work, laughter, and love that will continue to inspire those who had the privilege of knowing him. May his soul rest in eternal peace.
